Downwind Rush brings the idea of linking ocean runs to a short browser-based surfski challenge.

The project

Downwind Rush is a Swellix project by Matt Lee. The one-kilometre game combines steering, paddle effort and surfing recovery in a repeatable time trial. It is designed to make the idea of chasing a better run easy to explore on a phone or desktop.

Matt’s paddling experience

Matt started paddling at 15 on surf lifesaving skis and has won state and national medals in surfski paddling. He runs the IT for SA Ocean Paddlers and paddled The Doctor in Western Australia in 2025.

The website

This website brings together the game, a shared leaderboard and guides explaining game tactics and paddling concepts. Our equipment articles offer general selection considerations. They are not a substitute for individual instruction, local safety guidance or an on-water equipment trial.

Commercial relationships

CTC Surfcraft is featured on the website, and visitors can optionally register interest in CTC news and offers. The website and game are distinct parts of the project. Any paid placements and affiliate links will be labelled so readers can understand the commercial relationship.
